Urbanization Growth Monitoring
The Urbanization Growth Monitoring Service is a local service dedicated to urban and land spatial planning users in charge of the setting up and control of local urban plans, of the monitoring of the development of new constructions within the authorised built up area, and of the assessment of remaining available spaces in urban planning documents .
Based on Earth Observation multi-temporal data exploitation, this service will regularly map urbanization growth and measure the remaining non built up areas available in authorized urbanization zones and which are still open for construction in local urban plans.
Geo-information and maps related to past urbanization situations and historical growth may also be requested through the exploitation of available archive satellite data.
The monitoring of urbanization growth, is needed by Urban and Land Planning actors in order to monitor the realization of official authorised urban planning directives, to forecast new urbanisation trends and needs, and to help them in their decision making process regarding the regional and local application of spatial and environemental politics, including European directives.
In an environmental approach, the regular measurement of urban zones development is also helpful for green and blue infrastructures assessment, for local biodiversity - green corridors preservation which is linked to the artificialisation of landscapes at local level, and more generally for the setting up of specific indicators and environmental profiles or diagnostics, allowing the monitoring of sustainable development planning tools to be put in place.
This service may also be of interest for local or regional authorities, state services, municipalities, and building or constructions companies.
